Poetry

Room 4 has started work on Poetry for ELA. We are looking at poetic devices such as rhyme, form, simile, metaphor, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and personification.
The five types of poems that we are focusing on are: Free Verse, Cinquain, Haiku, Shape and List poems.
Today we started writing a Free verse poem together called an "I Am From", poem.

Thanks to Dacotah - our photographer of the day.

Room 4 Kandinsky Art

Here are some of the abstract art pieces that came to completion today! Experimenting with our abstract forms.....
We continued to look at Kandinskys art, and felt inspired by the shapes, lines, warm colouring and composition of his pieces. Come by room 4 and soon you will see these abstract pieces hanging on the bulletin boards! How do these paintings make you feel? What do you see?

Abstract Art

Today room 4 took a deep look at the artistic work of the infamous Wassily Kandinsky. Today we learned that Kandinsky was an influential Russian painter and art theorist. He is credited with painting the first purely abstract works. That makes him a very important person within the history of art! But what is abstract art?

Today room 4 discussed that abstract art does not attempt to represent recognizable reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using differing shapes, lines, colors and textures. We critiqued Kandinskys art by comparing his abstract paintings. We looked for the descending series of circles, triangles and squares - as well as discussed what we saw, and shared the feelings that the paintings evoked.

We wanted to experiment on our own! We started to experiment, and create our own abstract art pieces.

We will keep you posted with our artistic process!

Monday

A great Monday in room 4!

We also started the book "Wonder", by R.J Palacio.
Imagine the excitement or anxiety of the first day of school? What if you didn't start school until the 5th grade?August Pullman was born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school—until now. Its difficult being the new kid at a new school. The thing is... Auggie's just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates and teachers that he's just like them? Despite his appearances? Room 4 is about to find out...

First day of classes!

What a wonderful first day of classes! It is always difficult getting back into regular routines, but room 4 did a great job today.

Here we are as a grade 4/5 team making connections by introducing ourselves to our friends and other staff!

Rest up, and have a safe and happy weekend!
